As chief executive officer, Joanie Teofilo drives the strategic focus of TEA Solutions to deliver enhanced value to utilities and the communities they serve. Under her guidance, TEA Solutions helps power systems operate more efficiently, manage energy risk diligently, and expand their market reach. Ms. Teofilo’ s entrepreneurial vision and value-focused leadership have played a vital role in the development of TEA Solutions, which leverages the tools, systems, and expertise of The Energy Authority (TEA) to benefit a diverse range of power generators as they navigate the rapidly changing wholesale markets.

As a member of TEA's original launch team in 1997, Ms. Teofilo helped shape the deal capture trade systems, deal pricing, and deal valuation practices that enable TEA Solutions to deliver value for its clients. Throughout her career she has led teams across a range of specializations, including regulatory compliance, risk management, and analytics, to design and implement customized programs that specialize in hedging recommendations and risk metrics for utilities of all sizes and fuel supplies.

An industry expert, Ms. Teofilo is regularly sought out to speak at seminars on energy risk management and other related topics. Her speaking engagements have included events for the Committee of Chief Risk Officers, the Commodity Futures Trading Commission, the Federal Energy and Regulatory Commission, the American Public Power Association, and Electric Utility Consultants, Inc.

Prior to joining TEA Solutions and The Energy Authority, Ms. Teofilo worked as a project engineer in construction management at Santee Cooper, the leading utility of South Carolina, where she participated in combustion turbine studies, emissions studies, system planning, and implementation of equipment upgrades at generating stations. She began her professional career as a mechanical engineer at the American Samoa Power Authority, where she assisted with the development of a unit maintenance program, analysis of diesel generator performance, and capital improvement projects.

Ms. Teofilo holds a master's degree in business administration from the University of South Carolina. She obtained both a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering and a bachelor's degree in government and international relations from the University of Notre Dame. She is also a registered Professional Engineer.
